UPDATE: Google has updated Buzz and added a preferences tab in gmail. You can now kill Buzz. Unfortunately it also kills your Google profile.

After realising that Google Buzz was exposing my private contact details I set about plugging the leak.
Before turning Buzz “off” I unfollowed and blocked everyone in my list. An unfortunate side effect here is that I can no-longer see Louis Gray’s or my friend’s shared reader items from within Google Reader.
You can see here that Buzz is apparently turned off.

Unfortunately it turns out Buzz is just hidden from the web interface as I discovered when I logged in to gmail on my iphone.

I’m able to post messages to Buzz from here.

I can also post from here. Messages still appear on my public profile.

What does it take to get rid of buzz? Do I really have to turn off my other Google services (Profile, Reader Shared Items)?
Google, which part of “turn off” don’t you understand?
Celine at Web Worker Daily posted an interesting piece on dressing for work even if you work from home. Now that I’m freelancing from home again, I’m looking for ways to create some separation between life and work. With a new baby in the house that can be challenging. In any case I think the idea of pulling on your work boots before heading down to the basement office is an interesting one.
I finally got around to creating a music page. There’s links to places you can hear some of my music online and information about the amazing people who helped make it all happen.
I really love this photo series. I can’t convey in words why these images resonate with me so strongly. Please go and look at the whole series on deviantart.

“But, what do you do?” It’s a question I’ve been asked in job interviews and I rarely have a good answer. Being a generalist means you may have a broad understanding of many areas in a given field. Jack of all trades, master of none. It may not mean you’re attention deficit but quite possibly the product of your work environment and the types of projects you’ve handled. I have wondered whether this is symptomatic of self-taught web folk who have learned on the job as opposed to people who have specialised training. View Full Article »
I finally took the plunge and got my hands dirty with CakePHP over the geekend weekend. I’d been curious about PHP frameworks and wondered if they might help a code dabbler like me get a bit closer to fair dinkum dev. View Full Article »
It’s been a while between drinks but here I am plugging away on my website again. I’m not sure where this iteration will head and maybe that’s ok for now. Check back every once in a while to see if I’ve shared anything new.
Cheers,
